Red Dress
The Red Dress project was assigned to me during my fall 2011 semester abroad in Rome, Italy.  I designed, draped and then created this dress entirely while in Rome.  The dress is three pieces.  It was mainly hand sewn using Haute Couture methods of construction.  The top consists of a bustier shell including boning, an outer shell using silk shantung, and a lining piece made out of silk. After constructing the bodice, I ripped strips of 4 different fabrics including silk georgette, silk chiffon, tulle, and velvet.  I decided to rip the stripes to give my dress a more edgy look.  This dress includes a basic skirt underneath to provide coverage.  This under skirt is made using silk shantung and the same silk lining fabric.  The wrap skirt is ten panels, doubled, and sewn together made of again, silk shantung.  My source of inspiration came from the seven deadly sins.  I feel that the busyness of my dress coincides with my theme because there are also a lot of elements to the seven deadly sins.
