Perks of Being a Wallflower Cover

Wallflower - Book Cover Layout - 2015
My interpretation of a book cover for one of my favorite coming-of-age stories. I wanted to bring out the main character's characteristics, while staying true to the style of the book. Charlie was an introvert, but he had a big heart. The book is written as a series of letters that he has shared with an anonymous person. He is truly a wallflower, observing from the other side of the room.

I tried to depict this character by creating a pattern of a bright florals being revealed by drab wallpaper peeling back. The idea was to show that once Charlie is able to get out of his comfort zone, he is a beautiful person. The typography was influenced by the letters he writes in the book. I chose a font similar to the style of a typewriter.
