This brief was based around creating visuals from analog sources with the emphasis on experimentaion and trying new processes and techniques. Build a library/compilation and create a final piece incorporating the experiments.
Working with light/dark,paper card and cardboard tubing capturing with video/photography, i wanted to try and animate the photography Bokeh effect.
Bokeh is an effect associated with stills photography. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light". I wanted to get the Bokeh to dance,move and come alive. I created a number of different paper card pin hole stencils. Making traced lines loops,curves and patterns and then perforating these with a pin to allow the light shine through. The audio once souced then allowed me to recreate different patterns and swirls to try best accompany the audio. This animation is the strongest piece of the analog experiments.
Working with light, paper, and pin hole, card board tubing..Creating pin hole text stencils from handwriting. Experimenting with light painting, control of light in small space and different light sources eg Laser, LED. Using bulb exposure levels on camera low ISO. The cardboard tubing is creating a forced perspective and allowing a strong ethereal feel to the back lit text image.
Pushing the experimentation further i moved from stills photography to video. Shooting diiferent sequences and creating a layered composition in After Effects. Still using handmade text and the same materials as for the stills above.

Moving the analog experiment outdoors.Still working with light but this time in a less controlled environment silhouette and shadow outside. Using daylight and trying to create visuals with no control over elements or very little. Using trees, leaf and sunlight….Using the tree and leaf to create stencils for the light to fall through in post….trying to create visual pattern.That could be used as backdrop or mapped onto surfaces.

A different approach to the Analog brief this time combining collected items from the beach(sand/seaweed) with paper and trying to recreate a memory of the visit.(Beach/tidal) Using a flat bed scanner to produce a piece of test stop motion. Each item is moved on the scanner and a scan taken

Nightscapes. As I am looking at memory and identity for my FYP I recorded as a set of stills showing the moon, time passing but condensed. So as the time passes the images only reperesnt the recording of that instance, combined. But leave no trace, memeory or recording of what happens in between the the shutter releases.
Process: stills photography using intervalometer, 10sec shutter intermissions.
A series of experiments working with burnt car oil, brown paper, perspex and video/photography time lapse.Time lapse as a way of recording that captures image at a particular time but it is what happens outside capture that creates the image/record/memory. Could be used as a luma matte or key within After Effects.
