The source of my inspiration is a project called “Woodcut” by Bryan Nash Gill, in which the artist created prints of tree trunks’ cross-sections. What most appealed to me was the sensitivity and color scheme of his work, as well as the accidental rhythm of the tree rings. I started studying these ring-rhythms in relation to the human leg, and took notice of the imperfections of the leg itself such as flat feet and bunions.

I’ve decided that instead of hiding these imperfections, I will accentuate them with the help of my ring-rhythm inspiration. I wanted to call attention to the fact that imperfect characteristics can be sources of beauty in many cases. I created odd shoes in order to reinforce this imperfection of objects: although the pairs are not identical, they do fit together because of their shape.
