Project Overview:

Design the branding and packaging for a food product of my choice. The packaging must incorporate biomimicry and be environmental friendly.
Process:

I started brainstorming a list of products that I use often. I then narrowed down the list by thinking of problems I find when I consume the products out of their packaging. The product on my list with the most issues was "to-go" oatmeal. As a college student, I often bring my breakfast with me to eat on my way to class. It was hard to travel with the current on the go oatmeal containers because they were oddly shaped, did not have leak proof lids, and were not sturdy enough to put in a backpack. Therefore, I decided to design an oatmeal packaging that not only fulfilled my needs but also was healthy for the environment.

Branding:

I wrote down words on sticky notes and created a word map to help me think of product names and taglines. Eventually, I settled with "Good Oats" because I liked the warm, healthy, and hearty vibe that paired nicely with the feeling I get when I eat oatmeal. For the logo, I drew a stylized "O" to represent the shape of a rolled oat. I chose to make it a warm color to match the theme of the brand.

Packaging:

Since I could not get the actual materials to build the packaging, I created a mockup of the hypothetical packaging out of cardstock paper.
Final packaging mockup
The oatmeal container has a lid that holds a foldable spoon and a packet of toppings like nuts, dried fruit, or brown sugar.
