Pollution sensing device

This project was undertaken by a group of seven people within a course called ‘Sensors, probes and detectors’

Pollution sensing device addresses the fundamental environmental problem of pollution. It senses air pollution, currently measuring carbon monoxide, humidity and temperature, with a capacity of adding more sensors. It then stores the data and transmits it using an SD card into a webpage in a graphic format. People in different areas, using this pollution-sensing device, can measure the levels of these pollutants in the air and upload the data into the webpage. Enabling everyone to have accurate knowledge of levels of different pollutants in different areas.

This project required work on four major streams of inquiry:
1.    Building the circuit with sensors and Arduino coding
2.    Transmitting the data to a laptop or a PC using an SD card shield
3.    Presenting the data on a webpage; this required making infographs for the data and html coding
4.    Making an enclosure for the circuit
Breadboard circuit connecting the sensors, Arduino and battery.
PCB circuit with coded Arduino and working sensors.
html coded webpage with embedded google maps, wherein the red dots are hyperlinks to areas with updated pollution data.
Webpage upon clicking on the red dot, consisting of the data of the sensors in a graphical format.
Outer cover of the device, with cavities for the sensors, switch and SD card slot. It also includes a chanel based sliding compartment for batteries.
