South Pole Solo

In December 2015–January 2016 Adventurer Doug Tumminello will set his sights on arguably the most remote place on the planet, the South Pole. Doug will attempt to ski from the coast of Antarctica, at Hercules Inlet, to the South Pole—a distance of approximately 750 miles! Doug will be completely unsupported which means he will not be receiving any supplies during the trek. Doug suspects this incredible adventure will take 40-45 days.

I was thrilled when asked to design a logo mark for Doug and his amazing expedition. Doug has been majorly inspired by early 20th century explorers which gave me a great perspective for the design. I took reference to the history of patchwork used in exploration and Doug's interest in earlier history.

His story is like no other and encourages us to think of the possibilities we as humans can push ourselves to endure.
