PROBLEM
Research five noted graphic designers and artists, and develop an understanding of their direction and design motives. Create a multi-chapter InDesign document, complete with a Table of Contents, ect, ultimately to be printed in the form of a binded book. The goal is to discuss their lives using copied text, and showcase some their work individually, while creating a layout and grid system that can be applied throughout every chapter. Keep embellishments and heavy graphics to a limit, so as not to take the focus away from the artist's work.
SOLUTION
For a book showing off the work of others, I chose to go with a very minimalistic approach. Organizing text and imagery using one layout system proved to be a challenge in keeping it simple. The final product was Portraits, a 50 page 7 x 9 book, printed with a saddle-stitched binding. Above is the first chapter, with the exception of a few introductory spreads, followed by a handful of favorites.
