My paintings are created by layering color into sections and shapes. The colors of the painting make a mapped geometric shape. Each color block creates an expanding illusion of space. Sand, marble dust and linseed oil are added to oil paint for a variety of textures in each piece. The paintings are playful and I constantly rearrange them next to one another in new and different ways to create a range of relationships and compositions. When installed, each painting interacts with the painting next to it, making its placement an important feature of the work. To me they are instinctual; I enjoy battling over the composition in my head. I often spend time in my studio staring at the wall and mulling over whether the two closely placed yellow spotted paintings take too much away from one another. The paintings build off of one another, making each one seem incomplete on its own.
