Knitted Sound Fabric

Mode Of Efficiency is an act of preparation by independent art practitioners, grass roots organizers & NGO's. The sound was designed in a way to emphasise moments in the planning process to create a desired effect or mood. Scientific filters, Pitch bender & Doppler shifter were some of the effects used to manipulate audio elements

All That You Recorded
is a collage of sound/field recordings from Hillbrow neighborhood mixed in with two distinct sounds created when insects are in motion, sounds from a swarm of bees collecting nector and a male field cricket chirping. The two sonic sounds are the base & layers that informs the sound collage. I used audacity to breakdown the waves.
It Reads begins with a voice over from Siphiwo Mahala (Head of Books and Publishing in the National Department of Arts and Culture) reading an extract from thirteen cents by K. Sello Duiker and opening up a dialogue between Phybia Dlamini (director of A Kind of Language) and Pamela Nichols (Director of the Wits Writing Centre) and participants who came to the reading. To link the reading of the two authors to Moses Molelekwa we also invited pianist Nkosinathi to improvise during selected portions, adding a new, unprocessed ingredient to the soundscape.
