MUSICAL MUSINGS by Kayla Briët

COMPOSITIONS

I've loved playing the piano and have done so by ear since age 10. My biggest joy is creating compositions that embody childhood, adventure, strength, and soundscapes of reflection. Instuments I play include Chinese guzheng zither, piano, guitar, keyboard, loop pedal, and percussion. I hope that list expands to even more!

STORM
I wrote a small piece before I leave home tonight. For piano + guzheng zither 古箏.
This little piece is dedicated to Jake Roper because you are a BOSS warrior and kicking cancer's butt and infinitely questing the world for curiosities. ✨
It's called "Storm" written imagining a lone adventurer racing through the rain, wandering the forest, sea, and sky as the clouds clear. I hope you enjoy it (and the flowers which I hope to keep around the piano FOREVER n ever) n_n🌹✨🌙

CHILDHOOD
Last week I turned 19! So last night I stayed up till the wee hours of morning being all nostalgic about childhood and arranging this little medley by ear. Even if you haven't played a video game in your life, I'm sure you understand the transformative power of music, how ordered sequences of notes, frequencies, and rhythms somehow evoke vivid memories and emotions we've stored throughout our lives—the stories of love, loss, sadness, adventure, reunion. If I could place one song (or series of songs) to my childhood it would be this.
Thank you for watching n_n Love, Kayla.

ANOTHER WORLD
Theme and original score from the short film Another World (2014) by Kayla Briët: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyLjHh2vUFw
"Discovering the beauty within the world starts with discovering the beauty within yourself."

For this piece, I had fun composing something cinematic and powerful! Deep bass, brass and strings (the "movie" sound) combined with big drums, piano, electric guitar,  subtle rock elements, glockenspiel and more to create a whimsical aura. Enjoy!

ORIGINAL SONGS

It all started on a hand-me-down, swivel-base Macintosh playing the piano by ear and self-teaching producing techniques. Now I perform and create music live with a loop pedal and multiple instruments!
IF YOU CAN DREAM (EP)

These are some of the first full studio tracks I wrote/self-produced when I was 15-16. Playing around with orchestral/electronic styles and often writing about themes balancing light and dark, right and wrong, and the journey of finding yourself in the midst of self-doubt.

LIVE PERFORMANCE
LA Theatre Centre collaboration with the nation's best young Symphonic Artists at Young Arts Los Angeles. One of my biggest dreams since I was a little girl was to perform with a real-live symphony of any size, anywhere, and participating in YoungArts was a dream come true. I had the honor of collaborating and improvising a short piece with amazingly talented musicians I can now call my good friends.

Art gave me sight. Music gave me a voice. Film gave me a world.
