"Force" is a video performance that begins a dialogue about the performance of gender and the violence associated with assigned gender roles. The artists in this piece are all gender nonconforming, furthering commentary on the performance of stereotypes. "Force" is about all kinds of force - forced performance of social norms, forced roles of motherhood and violent hyper-masculinity, forced termination of pregnancy, forced confinement within perceived identities. The characters are anonymous, addressing broader archetypes, and even the freest among them are in many ways bound to the parts they play. The actions taken by the characters are exhibited as outrageous and otherworldly but reflect a reality that is imminent, pressing, and painful. The dynamic represented in "Force" is all too real.
All of the costumes in "Force" were hand knitted by the artist. Filming and editing by Kris LaRosa.
