Dunlop RS3 - Look Development

For the "Train The Trainer" event by Dunlop we had to create several small spots that show the advantages of the new Road Smart 3 tire. These spots contained real-life footage and a computer animated part. So for the computer graphics we had to find a style that would reference the landscape in the filmed footage while being abstract enough to be understood as "illustrated".
This was the first landscape scheme that really worked for our purposes and showed me that I was heading in the right direction.
Since the majority of our film consisted of a rocky landscape, this was my next step.
After that I quickly put together an abstract tree design and added it to the shot.
As the tree concept turned out to be too cartoony, I went on to a more detailed design.
So this was my final tree asset with two different tree designs and two shading styles. The trees were also scaled differently to create more variation.
I put everything together, smoothed out the landscape and reworked the geometry as well as the materials. This would have been the basic look of the final shot.

Unfortunately, we had to check the weather report with Ollie Williams, who said:
So this is what the clip looked like in the very end. We also had to change the color of the landscape slices in other (sunnier) shots, because the bright metal surface would be easily associated with snow.
Well, it's all about the process :D
