My objective for the project was to re-design an existing app, GoodReads, (which originally was not well-designed nor working efficiently) by analyzing the problems of the app. The app currently has too much information, which causes users to get lost in the app. Moreover, it has lost the main propose of use because of information overload.
As a book lover, I have thought about what I would like to have in the app. I love to see beautiful book covers and spines, and enjoy them in a quiet environment such as a library. Also, even though I had completely forgotten about this, I had an account for the app. The experience made me think about why I had stopped using it and what its problems were. I have decided to focus on archiving books by getting rid of social functions and extra information in order to make the app more like a personal library with a calm feeling. By using more visual images, I hope for the app to give a sense of satisfaction and encourage users to read more books.
The landing page shows bookshelf graphics which give users a sense of satisfaction by showing their collections of books they have read or will read.
Users can categorize books, and they can edit the categories however they want to.
The searching page shows 4 books at once with titles and authors of the books.
Conceptually, if users prefer to see only text information, they can change the mode.Book collection pages show covers of books.
The order of books can be changed by choosing the filter as well.
Book title pages have minimal information on the page. Detailed information of author, story, or reviews are available by tapping each button. In order to remember quotes, save pages, or leave comments, this app has a sticky notes function.
Also, so many books have more than one cover design, and some people are picky about it. Users can choose whichever book cover they want to see in their personal libraries.
