Ettore Sottsass and Memphis Design are always a source of inspiration. With this project I wanted to celebrate them, adding a contemporary touch to ’80s motifs. Modern yet retro, this work exemplifies the artful blend of past and present. The project started with a hand-painted background, then I digitally decontextualized the typical Memphis Design elements. A process that brings new life and meaning to a design classic. Formally a bold ’80s-style patterns come alive, colorful forms in a stunning composition, yet there is a minimalist, industrial quality that brings the piece into today’s world of art and design.
