Challenge
In print and publication design, typography is one of the more crucial aspects. Typography is essential the practice of organizing, arranging, and modifying type. When used skillfully it furthers the communicationby making it readily understood conceptually, beautiful, and creative. To showcase this a person of historical interested was assigned and project parameters required the execution to exude the personality and life accomplishments of the individual to be expressed in the publications design and copy content. The historical figure to be expressed typographically was Sergei Diaghilev.

Solution
Sergei Diaghilev was a Russian art critic, patron, ballet impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes. A man in step and with the development of 20th century art, he constantly reinvent himself as remade ballet for the people. Embracing and infusing multiple art forms he is largely responsible for what ballet has become today. He lived richly and was surrounded by scandal up to his last days. He squandered his fortune and bruised egos along the way.

A type and color pallet was meticulously created to pay homage to Russian constructivist and revolutionary roots, the grace of ballet, and turn of the century art forms such as Dadaism, Cubism, and the developing music of his time. In order to fully embody the man, particular care was placed in the treatment of illustration, type and photography and the intentional square form of the hand made book.
