My piece for the Light Grey Art Lab show Botanica. My piece features the amazing plant Monotropa Uniflora, also called indian pipe, ghost plant, or corpse plant. Monotropa Uniflora is a herbaceous perennial plant that is also parasitic. It contains no chlorophyll so it has a ghostly white appearance. Because it is parasitic and does not need sunlight to grow it is usually found in dark and secluded sections of forests. The flower, which is normally drooped over, turns skyward upon pollination. I was immediately drawn to this plants strange appearance and they are frequently associated with fairies and forest spirits. To me they looked like tiny streetlights which is where the inspiration for my piece came from.
