The logo represents all aspects of the physics department, from the smallest (atomic) physics to physics on the largest scale (astrophysics). At its core, the logo symbolizes the dynamism of physics and the innovative nature of physics research. In the center of the logo is an abstraction of the planet Saturn, to represent astrophysics, while the outer circle can be seen as both a representation of the atomic structure, or the stars in the farthest reaches of space. Using the school colors of black and gold, as well as one of the new fonts, Futura, it is also thoroughly representative of Cal State LA.
