Meet Flynn, the protagonist of our upcoming game called Shadow Land,

Character Backstory:
The story takes place in a gigantic rainforrest. Flynn lives with his tribe in a village built way up on the huge trees. The tribe is relatively smal (about hundred people), they are deeply religious, everyone wears masks. They know very little about the world below, most of the tribe members have never been to the surface, they live their whole life in the village (The trees are so large, it would take days to climb down to the ground level). Flynn is a teenager boy, who respects his tribe, but he is also very bored with the same daily routine every day, and he really wants to have an adventure, and explore the unknow world bellow, but none of the other tribe members can understand his motivations.
A very early concept for Flynn
Early concept art of the character

I wasn't very satisfied with this design. It wasnt uniqe enough for me, so I kept on drawing
Sometimes when I felt stuck in designing I studied allready existing characters and compared to mine. I tried to figure out why the other one work and why mine doesn't. It helped a lot progressing forward.
On the left side you can see my character concept. On the right side you can see a study of the character named Shay from the game Broken Age created by Tim Shafer.
The change in the sape of the mask from square to round wasn't a design decision, it was neccessary because of the story.
Bag design
(the text on the right says: "He pulls it forward when he browses")
Final design
Every bodypart is  handpainted separately. (I have done this way, so later it will be easier to animate)
Digitally assembled caracter with some retouch and colorcorrection
Early walk test.
