Kere: Man-made lake

Jakkur Lake was created 200 years ago and as time passed by, cleanliness level of the lake reduced. Humans play a major role for the change of ecosystem of a lake. Actions of Humans have a direct impact on the lake. It is because of different kinds of human waste that extra efforts have to be taken to preserve Jakkur Lake.
This project was about studying, analyzing and researching about Jakkur Kere and coming up with three different patterns in three different print outcomes.
1. Ritual Waste: There are a lot of religious superstitions that people in India follow like throwing excess food in the lake for the fishes, throwing dry flowers in the lake on a daily basis, immersion of idol etc. While the festival of Ganapati and Navratri people immerse the idols of the god on the last day of the festival, these idols are made of non-degradable material like POP which settles down in the lake and helps to imbalance the living of the aquatic animals of the lake.
A kalyani is created to avoid these kind of waste to enter the lake. Kalyani is a tank created next to the lake for ritual purposes like immersion of god.

2.Humans have contributed a lot in polluting the lake by throwing waste that or non-biodegradable or by throwing sanitary or biomedical wastes in the lake. The local people even used the lake before for cleaning purposes. These wastes gets settle down in the lake and hence captures and affects the space of aquatic animals. Still people throw waste in the lake. It is important for the consumers and users of the lake to show some civic sense to the society and not litter the lake with waste.

Print outcome: Bag tag (For the proud users of the lake who pledge no not throw waste into any lake)

3. Sewage treatment plant (STP) was created a few years ago near the lake so that the sewage waste entering the lake from nearby localities could be first treated, cleaned and purified before entering the lake. This treated water enters the wet land which removes the extra impurities in the water before the water enters the lake.
