A Themed Bed for a Child
Ryan Timm's 4 year old son is a big Beatles fan!
Ryan Timm is a fabricator at Custom Creation and with his 4 year old son, a Beatles Fan.  He and I talked  about a bed design that might resemble a certain Yellow Submarine.  The bed needed to express the whimsy of the classic 60's animated feature, be practical in providing storage for toys, fit a standard sized child's mattress, provide a place to display treasures, have multiple locations for photos, be simple to assemble and efficient to move.

Here's a preliminary 'white model' for a concept. Basic sizing, proportions and details were addressed.  This provided a good place to start the conversation and to set the tone for our project.

This is the final concept with a color scheme very close to what Ryan and his son settled on.  A large pull out drawer was added under the mattress platform. There's a storage compartment in the 'nose' of the submarine, a vertically oriented storage bin in the 'tail' and a horizontal storage bin facing to the left next to the pull out drawer.

As with any project, here's where all the parts & pieces are sorted out.

Ryan was able to use this project as a primer for operating Custom Creation's CNC router. Here he has assembled  and pre-fit all the parts and pieces before preparing them to be painted.

Ryan set the bed up at Custom Creation for a week in order for the paint to off-gas and harden before taking it home.  He added LED lighting to the forward storage compartment.

Another view of the bed showing the 'rear' storage bin.  The lower 'portals' have photos of the 'Fab Four'. If all goes well, a photo of the bed 'in situ' will be added to the gallery soon.
