Black Indian Ink
Graphite
Black ballpoint pen
Watercolour

These experimental pieces helped me refamiliarise mysefl with different art supplies: One more abstracted than the other.
Colour was explored to investigate how to create a suggestion of a subject in a painting through hints of colour and line.

HB Pencil
Black Indian Ink
Compressed Charcoal

Exploring line, mark making and what is created using different materials with different properties.

Experimental Evaluation:

Would not include these in a presented series.
1st sketch: Although I do like the material I worked with and the effect it had,the portrait orientation of the experiment is unfitting to the rest.
2nd sketch: Interesting because of the extent of the abstraction of the subject. I still would not include this in the series - I feel as though it also would not flow with the rest of the experiments. However, this experiment was useful in discovering what ink can create.

Tone & Composition

This composition study consisted of experimenting with different compositional techniques with the use of different materials. By using different meterials I was also able to investigate the way varied tones can be acheived according to the medium at hand.

Perspective to Flat

This study covered the transformation of the same scene from both 3D and flat perspc, ective and also experimenting with different base materials and the medium used.

One-Point Perspective only

Tracing paper
Blue ballpoint pen

Keeping the perspective as realistic as possible with no additional flat forms.

One-Point Perspective/Flat Forms

Black card
Tracing paper
White colour pencil

Sketch using one-point perspective with the change of detailed forms to flat representations.
The representational shapes made of tracing paper sugggests what the subject actually is.

Flat Forms only

Brown card
Sugarpaper
Pencil (B)

The perspective in this experiment is created by layered 2D shapes. I took this as an opportunity to see how well perspective can be suggested/created through simple marks - the lines drawn in pencil are suggestive of what the subject of the piece is, but don't have enough detail to give a definitive answer.

A3 (Double Page)

Atmospheric Perspective

These pages explore different ways of creating this form of perspective such as through the use of materials like compressed charcoal or layering tracing paper with different elements drawn on each layer to collectively come together as one piece.

Fashion & Textiles: Draping

Initial research and short group projects.
A3

Individual project: Draping

This task helped me understand the way to use the qualities of a material to cover a body in an innovative way. Development lead to exploring folds and angles within garments.

Artist Study

Artist investigation of Rei Kawakubo and Issey Miyake and the different methods of covering the human figure with a material to create extraordinary, original forms and sillouhettes.

Initial Research: Storage
Storage in an art studio is one of the most vital features to an encouraging creative space: this page investigates ways to maximise storage in the space.

Life Drawing: Wet materials
Firstly trying to establiish the forms of the figure through monochrome tones only to focus on the shadows and highlights found when painting a human figure prior to experimenting with colour.

Life Drawing: Establishing a sense of the forms of the human figure. This time with the addition of colour. With a choice between red & green and blue & yellow acrylic paint, I opted for the second as I was drawn to the coolness of the blue that still held a certain vibrancy alongside the bright yellow paint. Creating different colours with different mixtures of the paint helped my fluidity whilst still maintaining a suggestive form.

Compressed/Willow Charcoal

After observing at the subject and scene to deterimine the general forms, shapes, lines and tones that make up the composition, i started to measure rough angles to establish the proportion of the figure and, using varied lines, started to suggest features or shapes from the scene.
Upon building the varied tones and adding finer detail, i went over with a rubber to accebtuate the highlights of the piece
