GenealogyBank Subscription

Project: Promotion code entry on GenealogyBank.com
Company: NewsBank, Inc.
Date: March 2007

The GenealogyBank marketing team needed a system that allowed promotion codes to be entered during the subscription process. Some promotion codes would give customers access to additional subscription offers, as well as discount pricing. Because the first page of the subscription process required users to select a subscription offer, the promotion code input field and submit button needed to be prominent enough to become the user’s first step, if applicable.

The design concept I presented to the team used a tab metaphor at the top of the form, with reversed type on a dark background, to give the promotion code visual prominence on the page. I also proposed using the same space to confirm successful codes, and added a verbose message for invalid codes.
