Branding: In this project, led by Andrew Walters of Pentagram, I rebranded The Space and Rocket Center located in Huntsville, Alabama. Founded by Dr. Werhner Von Braun, director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the US Space and Rocket Center has seen over 16 million visitors. Home to Space Camp, The Aviation Challenge Camp, and Robotics Camp, the Space and Rocket Center is the largest spaceflight museum in the world. My goal was to refresh the out dated existing logo, make a system friendlier for screens, and to attract the local community to re-engage with the Center.
My solution is a logo refresh strategy that keep brands recognition without alienating the current audience. Rather than throwing out the old visual scheme completely, I took an approach that expanded and updated the old mark. The new concept was informed by typography on the side of the Apollo Rocket, the Center’s largest attraction. My research led me to examine space race age graphics and objects.
