D E S I G N
For my Spring/Summer 2017 collection I deeply researched about the ocean life, as I was looking for inspiration, I came across corals. I was mainly inspired by their colors and the contrast it create d against the vast blue ocean. I researched many female designers and concluded that Chanel was the style I was searching for and included some of her minimalistic designs into mine. I also attempted to use unconventional fabric, such as vinyl to add to my designs. Because of the reflective surface of the vinyl, it enhanced the abstract idea of the sea that I created.

To prevent my collection from being stiff, I incorporated lightweight coral chiffon to create a sense of fluidity and softness. As for my jacket, I again returned to the idea of unconventional and used cotton broadcloth, a lighter weight fabric than is usually used for jackets and coats. Because of that, it gives my collection a spring sensation other than just the designs.  Although I have chosen controversial fabrics and elements, my designs and shapes are very classical and, in a way conservative, because my vision was to create union in the difference between atypical and traditional.

To not be literal with my coral inspiration, I manipulated my cotton broadcloth with a shibori dye, which created these shapes with no form whatsoever, creating a contrast with my clean-cut designs.  The fabric is predominantly white, with large pink-red spots and some smaller turquoise spots. I also manipulated my lining the same way since the pants are entirely done with vinyl, resulting in the visibility of the lining.
