Taekwondo Green Belt Penguins
I painted these boards. My son breaks them for his belt tests in Taekwondo.
He just got his high green belt and requested penguins to commemorate the event. My hope is he keeps these and is proud of the hard work he put in to get his belts.

Step-by-Step Technique
I lightly gessoed the board and used a black Prismacolor pencil to sketch in the picture.
2nd half of "diptych". Technically not a diptych since the 2 boards aren't joined.
Under-painting completed. Haven't used this type of under-painting in a while. My brushes are a little frayed but still happy with result.
Opened up the pthalo blue, dioxidine purple, titanium white and mars black and finished off the sky and large icy outcroppings in background.
Painting complete. I'm painting the backside of the boards green with a black stripe (the current belt my son is on). Next up, varnishing and finding some hardware to connect the boards.
