Proudly Emirati : The Quiz Game
Proudly Emirati – The Quiz Game is an interactive educational game for learners of Arabic language and
culture. It aims to provide information about and enhance understanding of the Emirati people and their
distinct culture, language and way of life. Cultural understanding is a necessary component of human
learning and communication, both of which are related to the process of information processing and cognitive
thinking. In addition to learning basic language skills, such as the alphabet, grammar and vocabulary, the
learner needs to become familiar with diverse modes of thinking emerging out of everyday experiences and
social interactions as these are interwoven with historical, socio‐economic, and cultural elements. This project aimed to develop an interactive softwareapplication to be used in teaching/learning environments where the Arabic language and culture are taught. Each question of Proudly Emirati – The Quiz Game can be seen as a separate teaching unit, from which the teacher or parent can attempt to expand and enrich the initial information given. Most people learn more effectively when they are given the opportunity to use a preferred learning style, and this is achieved in this case with the use of educational technologies. Proudly Emirati – The Quiz Game was developed by Year 3 Educational Technology students at Sharjah Women’s College, HCT, and offers a fun and enjoyable experience, and represent a dynamic learning resource for students of Arabic language and culture. The game is published with a Creative Commons license, to make it available to interested schools/teachers. The author/s will give permission for others to use, copy and distribute the work for free, whilst retaining the copyright.
