The Art of Weddings
Why Designers have the upper hand when it comes to the personalized details on their special day.
I recently had the great privilege of being a female groomsman for my best friend and design colleague, Dave. Having had my own wedding two years ago, I very much understood the importance for Designers to infuse as much visual detail to their weddings as possible, and we have the unique opportunity to ...ehem... exploit the talents of our friends (and ourselves) to make what we envision a reasonable and achievable end result.

This wedding was no different. The Bride is a jewelry designer and created all the pieces for the bridesmaids and herself, the wedding bands, cufflinks for the groom, and very special monogrammed metal tags that were sewn into the wedding dress and the grooms' suit. All the print material (invitations, name tags, giveaway bags, etc) were, for lack of a better word, branded in a beautiful purple and green 'brand identity' that Dave himself established for the event. There was a custom made envelope box on the gift table fashioned out of  purple heart wood by the best man (a carpenter), beautiful flower arrangements by one florist bridesmaid and feature desserts crafted by another bridesmaid who is not only a fashion designer, but also has a background in pastry cheffery.

When Dave and his fiance Andrea approached me for help, I was very excited to pitch in my abilities to make their wedding extra special. Avid fans of travel, their idea was to discard the traditional numbered table system for the reception and instead name each table after a city they've traveled to or have fond memories of. They were looking for a vintage 50's feel that would match other details from their wedding, and asked if I could somehow work their colours (purple and green) into the postcards. I was very excited to produce these postcards, based off of actual photos they had taken on their travels, and I took it upon myself to try to use a unified, limited colour palette restricted mainly to just green and purple.

The results were a smash hit and I am quite pleased with the results.
