Our assignment was to create three forms of directions allowing someone to arrive at a destination within a mile. Each form had a specific restriction: one was to use only type, one using only imagery, and one using both type and imagery. I took the reader on a walk from the Narrows Center for the Arts to the Iwo Jima Memorial in Fall River, MA. I spend a large amount of time walking along the water to the memorial, in which case allowed my choice to be very easy.
During the walk, there are a lot of different attractions and objects you see consistently. Because of this I decided to narrow down what you see throughout the entire walk. I chose to allow the reader to follow only the lamp posts in order to reach their destination.
The final products were packaged in a way that a person using them could easily carry, and open up in sections, but also be able to use as a full map.
