Allegory of Nature

This painting represents the longest amount of time I have invested in evolving any image. Part of this stems from not having any notion of what the image would be, and had determined no image set to work from. So large parts of this painting are layers of images whose sole purpose is to inspire a reaction. Too force a dialogue, build a history, to cast votes and simply decide what it would be. That’s a lot simpler than it sounds.

Early in development I anchored to the idea of the image looking like an antique 1700s piece, dismounted from its frame for cleaning. This notion demanded a higher degree of attention resulting in an elegant variety of subtleties. At extreme magnification the detail of brushwork, textures etc. hold up well.

This gallery highlights significant iterations from the images development. The conceptual foundations involve the roll of passive image absorption over an extended time frame. Unlike former works this piece did not have a predetermined image set to build from.
