Children's Garden Interpretive Signs - MOBOT

Children's Garden Interpretive Signs
In the Doris I. Schnuck Children's Garden, at the Missouri Botanical Garden
A large part of my internship with the Missouri Botanical Garden's publications department was assisting with their ongoing project to redesign and update their interpretive and way-finding signage. I was primarily assigned to assist the staff designer handling the Children's Garden, using themes based on the signs in development for the rest of the Garden but with more saturated colors and fun fonts to appeal to children.

Once the template for the signs was created I was responsible for helping set the copy, editing the selected photographs and finalizing the icons that communicate what type of information the sign will contain.
Track Icons
All of the signs in the Children's Garden fall into four groups, indicated by a special icon as seen above. Each type of sign is also associated with a historic figure whose background relates to Missouri.

Historic Figure Illustrations
Few photographs, portraits, or lithographs released to the public domain are of sufficient quality to be placed on a sign. For this reason it was requested that I draw matching portraits for use in these signs.
