The Film
Concept Note
A day in Shreya’s (protagonist) life portrays the functioning of a typical Indian family. Shreya is shown to be open-minded, who profoundly believes in the existence of love, but is reluctant in marrying someone who she is not well acquainted with. When she has reached the optimal level of maturity, she is bound to comply by the traditions which have been prevalent in the Indian society. On the day when she has to meet a boy, she is indifferent at first, engrossed in her own world, but when she has an argument with her mother, the full extent of the situation strikes her. In frustration, she smokes a joint, which results in her completely spacing out from reality. She is emerged in her own world, where she has the leash to the situation. In that state, she goes through the entire process of how the seeds of arranged marriage are laid; from serving tea to dressing up appropriately, only, she has her own take to it. The process has been used as a mockery to the functioning of the Indian society, of how we have been consistently following the same old traditions, even when times have changed. When she finally snaps out her trance, she finds herself in the company of the boy whom she was arranged to meet. In the end, both of them are shown to smoke a joint, completely neglecting the fact that they were stuck in a situation which demanded them to be more compliant of the traditions and customs. The film also depicts, that today’s generation would not just blindly accept the norms which are impelled on them, that we need to change with changing times.
