Compendium on Lifelong Learning

The project Pro-Learn has addressed all decision makers, practitioners and experts who implement strategies of Lifelong Learning (LLL), as declared in the resolution of the European Commission ‘Europe 2020’.

This strategy has called for a change of perspective in regard to Lifelong Learning, focusing on the question of how people design their own learning and organize priorities. In Pro-Learn, six educational institutions from five European member countries gathered in a research network cooperation, in which Lifelong Learning strategies were developed, tested and evaluated in a joint partnership. The insights of this project found their way into an extensive compendium, published in five different languages (German, English, Czech, Italian, Norwegian).

Inspired by a passage from the text I chose the metaphor of the expedition voyage / sea travel to illustrate essential characteristics of a lifelong learner like thirst of knowledge, joy of discovery, willingness to take risks and to experiment, adventurousness, stamina, perseverance and determination.

The reader him/herself embarks on a learning journey through a sea of knowledge setting course for the 'golden land of recommendations'; meaning recommendations of measures for a European strategy to support the implementation of Lifelong Learning over the span of life. Nautical charts provide orientation throughout the publication and separate different sections. The photos depict curious, and critical people of all ages, as well as typical maritime themes.
