Adventures with Egyptian Phrases

Adventures of Egyptian Phrases is a project I made that illustrates phrases that we use in everyday colloquial Egyptian Arabic. This comic book had the concept of using common egyptian phases to educate developing arabic speakers to learn this essential part of our language and culture. I love everything about Egyptian dialect. It is such an adequate depiction of who we are as a people. These phrases embellish our language the same way taxi drivers embellish their dashboards with kitschy bobble head dogs; and I love it. Egyptian life is over the top and our language shouldn’t be any less.
The visual concept is a collage of antique comic book and magazine images as well as illustrations. It was printed on old, cheap paper to give a retro effect.
