The example in our textbook was of a quote in a narrow column--white text on a black background. The assignment was to interpret the example but to make it our own. For this Douglas Adams quote, I chose a dark purple-blue background and a color palette for the text reminiscent of photos of nebulas. The text is set in all variations of Avenir Next.
I wasn't going to use any rules (the example did), but in the end I thought the quote was more readable with two "speakers" separated.

Finally, I used a public domain NASA image of a galaxy and removed the background very quickly using Photoshop's background eraser. I copied and rotated the galaxy and placed it around the edges for some added visual interest.
