Project Schoolpaper

In my high school I was an active member of the school paper. So I keep Project School paper close to my heart. It was one of the biggest projects I have worked on, 6 months straight,
non-stop with an incredible team. After the terrorist attack on French satirical weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo, we felt that the urge of free press and journalism became more important.
At the same time, we saw that school papers were disappearing or were under control of teachers/parents in the form of an e-letter. Since one of our clients is the second biggest newspaper of the Netherlands, the AD, this project was quickly born.
So we came up with a free learning platform for kids, and that is a lot of fun!
Together with my copywriter and strategist, we have researched in creating lesson material.
By not just interviewing teachers but also journalists to understand what newspapers are all about. We came up with 5 basic pillars of Journalism: Finding News, Interviewing, Photography, Writing and Design. We have written 130 pages in Word and created a world for each class, filled with colourful characters.
Every lesson had their own teacher, based on a professional journalist of the AD Newspaper. They all give an introduction and are guiding the kids throughout their lessons with cool anecdotes, tips and tricks.
Each teacher has their own little world with a set of characters who would support the content. Making theory and quizzes more fun. All of them were illustrated by Patswerk.
The lessons and illustrations were designed by Richard Beerens and further developed by SuperHero Cheesecake who made lively and cute animations.
Every class was structured with an introduction lesson, multiple main lessons and at the end the big assignment. Students had to complete all the lessons to unlock a big assignment.
After finishing the big assignment, the result would be sent to their actual teacher.
So that he/she could grade it and use for their very own newspaper.
To keep learning as fun as possible we came up with different kind of interactive quizzes. Dragging stuff into the right order, ABC quizes, audio quizes and more were making the platform more than just reading.
To keep kids extra motivated throughout the platform we came up with rewards. Like for watching all movies, finishing within a day, scoring well on quizzes, completing lessons or a whole class. They could find all their earned rewards in their very own trophy cabinet.
