Baumeister, a monthly architecture magazine based in Munich, published a special edition ARCHITECTS FOR ARCHITECTS in cooperation with the news magazine Focus. For this special edition they needed an abstract illustration on architecture and they came to me.

I was given complete freedom, so this was the perfect opportunity to execute an idea I‘ve been playing with for quite some time. My starting point was a large painting made by artist Joseph Jessen, showing an abstract monumental object. I wanted this complex image, with all its seemingly impossible angles and facets, to become an actual possible construction. In order to make this work I used 3D modelling software.

Because of this software I would have been able to show the object from any perspective I wanted. But I preferred showing the exact same angle in my illustration as used in the original painting. And other then adding a staircase, to turn the object into a building and give it a sense of scale, I wanted to reproduce the object as accurate as possible. For this is not my creation, it's a tribute. All credits go to my favourite painter and man in the world.
