The Bird Cage aspires to answer the question of bipolarity in architecture and how it applies to alive work space. The concept of bipolarity emergesat multiple phases of thisproject. First it coalesces asthe appearance of multiplebuilding membranes, eachcontaining it’s own inherent rules and negotiationsof enclosure, structure andresponse to spatiality. Secondly the bipolar natureof this project is exhibitedin the interweaving of it’sbuilding systems in a holistic nature. Structure penetratesshell, shell negates liner, so on and so forth. Whilethere is a general hierarchyto the generation of thehouse’s systems, they areall born of the same primitive. Because of the systems exodus, they are ableto negotiate in an out ofone another rather seamlessly and create a dichotomy in which the buildingexists in a complete andtotal entity.
