Desert Cabbage

Landscape artwork and Installation design. 14 piece exhibition, 2017, South Africa

The design of a life-size installation that explores space, sacred geometry and the energy of the labyrinth. The piece is inspired by the Afrikaans children's song " Koljander Koljander" and indigenous succulents. Themes such as growth, progression, and ritual are explored. The piece is designed to be built from natural and recycled materials. It complements the landscape yet challenges it.

Concept Drawing
The leaves are placed in a spiral path.  
Material & Colour & Texture Test
An experiment with colours and paint overlays to capture the plant's inner texture. 
Site Plan
A 3D model of a piece of landscape gives you an abstract sense of the location of the installation artwork.
Location & Installation layout
The location boards include topographical map references as well as google maps references of the actual location. The landscape design is drawn onto a panoramic photograph of the hill used. 
Exhibition
The main piece is broken up into 6 different artworks in a form a grid. This piece gives the viewer a sense of the location, design and texture of the landscape artwork.
