This paper cut piece is a study of the iconic Florentine cabinets displayed in many of the museums around Florence. These cabinets are usually sculpted in reference from Medici villas and palaces. They were made of wood and inlaid with many precious gems and stones. Each cabinet had many compartments, which held precious trinkets or pieces of jewelry. I chose to use one of the most famous Medici Villas, Poggio a Caiano, as the reference for my own cut paper cabinet. Inside each window of the villa contains small books I made with drawings of the museums I visited in Florence during this semester abroad. Each book highlights all the pieces I found to be interesting or special during my visit at the museum. As viewers look through each book, I hope it can spark an interest for people to visit that museum or help them remember the art that they did see if they have already visited that museum.
