Nagashi Somen
Tufts University, Sophomore Year

I created and managed an event called Nagashi Somen (translates to flowing noodles) for Tufts University’s Japanese Culture Club. For the event, a slide measuring 30’ long was created using six bamboo halves measuring 5’ long and 5” in diameter. The halves were placed end to end with a slight overlap. The slide was supported with tripods made with ½” diameter bamboo poles. A hose at the front fed water to the slide and two buckets were placed at the end to capture the water and excess noodles.

Over 100 people came to the event over the course of 2 hours and the event is now held twice a year.
