"Edifigma" is a combination of the words "edifice" and "enigma," which both describe the puzzling nature of these photographs. Confusion might arise as the viewer ponders over the credibility of what they are looking at. Conversely, there might be a sense of harmony, as the photographs each have elements of symmetry and balance in them.

While I was visiting the city of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, I was fascinated by the architecture of its Spanish-influenced buildings; the bright colors, the intricate balconies, and the underlying geometric shapes all stood out to me. I wanted to highlight those elements through these dynamic, symmetrical, yet perplexing compositions.

These images were manipulated from photographs that I took of various buildings and structures in Old San Juan. Portions of the photographs were cropped out, and I mirrored the remaining sections to create repeating structures. These mirrored images form one whole, cohesive picture—but one that is quite different from the reality of the original photograph.
