    About Project

Project for Sculptural Forms // A visual representation of my conception of personal identity. The project is approached with a meditation on the different levels of perceived components of identity, i.e. race, gender, ethnicity. Another possible plane for identification which differs from these body-based conceptions of identity is revealed with the transcendent reality of being. This dichotomy between the physical and metaphysical planes is illustrated with the construction of two cubes: one that is larger than the other representing the material body; the smaller one resting inside the larger cube symbolizing the soul or inner self. The materials used differ in order to further clarify the perceived dualism between the two realities. Wood--rigid and elementally related to the earth, the physical--is used to construct the outer cube. For the inner cube, glass mirrors are used to evoke the ineffable and mysterious quality of the transcendent. It reflects everything around it, showing but not showing. Present and yet absent at the same time.
