"self-portrait", oil on canvas, 36''x48''.
I painted myself in fetal position without a face to show the universal confusion of "who am I?" and the idea of " no self " in buddhism.
"mother" ,Graphite on paper ,36x48''
My relationship with my mother has been extremly complicated and overwhelming. I created this piece to depict my personal impression of her. on the other hand, my mother's artistic taste is very limited in overwhelming floral and luxurious patterns in Asian art, which I find is an accurate representation of her personality.
figure painting, oil on canvas, 40''x48''.
In class assignment.
"embrace", pastels on paper, 3.5ft x 6.4 ft
I tried to draw loosely and transfer my disires and emotions more freely. I explored with more abstract shapes and bright colors which I rarely used before.
"light at 4:38 p.m.", oil on panels, 10x10'' each, 40 piece in total.
I painted the light at 4:38 p.m. that was passing thought my room and on my body. I also tried to explore new styles and abstraction through out this process.

"ribs", oil on canvas, 36'x 80''
I'm very interested in Chinese modern history, this piece shows the starving people during 20th century in China.
"Red Years", encaustic on wood panels, top 4x12'', bottom 10x24''.
I researched on Chinese Modern history, especially on the Cultural Revolution. I used iconic colors and 3D shapes to express my anger and sorrow towards the Cultural Revolution.

1."mooncake", 48x52'', oil on canvas.
This piece describes the tension between different cultures and thinkings in my own mind. I came to the U.S. at the age of 15, ever since then, I often feel that I'm too Chinese for Americans and too American for Chinese. The idea of home has become strange to me, which triggered me to paint an interior scene. Besides, the characters in different fashions show my inner struggle of growing up in different cultures.
"meatloaf", graphite on paper, 3.5 ft x 7.5 ft
I was inspired by Chinese scroll paintings to make a long drawing. This piece portrays human desires and entanglements in a physical way.
