What they don’t see part 2

For me the ‘perfect women’ is an ideal that the female population is compared to because of society standards. So, to confront I ask my friends whom are all different in the individual looks, the places they come from, and the experiences they have had, to participate. Because the common thread of my friends is that at one point in their life someone told them they were not good enough or pretty or made them feel as if they don’t fit in the perfect box society puts women in. Each friend has individualized presentation of themselves. From the font, to the background, even their final pose. Because like I said everyone has walked a different path and along the way reacted differently towards issues like this. And to understand that more for myself I made questionnaires for each of the four girls so that the audience could get a sense of how they think and feel like, I did. I asked them four simple questions “What do you think the world doesn’t see about you? What in words?”, “Has there ever been words that negatively affect you?”, “What words have you’ve felt, about yourself?” and lastly “How did it make you feel?” And how they responded play a huge roll in their pieces. Like for one of them she said ‘was sadden by the people’s judgment’ of her so in her final pose is covering her face pushing the box away because she doesn’t want the world to see her tears. It’s is emotions like hers that I wanted completely felt by the audience and therefore the piece focuses on the element movement. I felt that the viewers of my original mixed media piece missed out on the full complexities of the piece because there was only one pose. Which was the girl on the ground punching the words that try to suffocate her. Through the multiple slides one can sees the words physically breaking the woman down, and making them push back. The words are assembled in a jumble at first to symbolized the idea of how thoughts develop in a person minds. But then just like in one’s head the thoughts become more clear the more you think about it. And then finally you feel them starting to affect you just as they did for the girls, but in this case, it physical brought them down. And I feel as if this without these intricate components the piece would get lose in a sea of words.
