VR Baseball Simulator

Virtual reality is an exciting tool for creating fun & immersive experiences and new training tools for athletes and sports fans alike. This is my attempt at creating a Virtual Reality Baseball Simulator that is fun with a dash of realism. Experience the feeling of batting or catching against a real human pitcher throwing 100 MPH fastballs while immersed in a baseball field.

The simulator incorporates all the typical pitches in a baseball pitcher's arsenal - fastballs, sliders and breaking balls (off-speed pitches). The location of the pitches within the strike zone, as well as their selection, is randomized by the simulator to keep the player guessing. The mix of pitches and their speed (all the way up to 100 MPH or more) are selected by the user. Audio sounds were added to enhance the user experience.

The simulator runs on the HTC Vive headset and was created using Unity 5, Cinema 4D, Mixamo, Adobe Fuse and the SteamVR VRTK toolkit. I created all aspects of this project including research, modeling and game physics. The project initially started out as a simple attempt at catching a ball in VR but soon grew into a full fledged baseball simulation.

This is a self-initiated research project to explore the training possibilities of VR and I have not yet given a thought of turning this into a commercial VR game.
