I think it was round about Easter time, if not Easter Sunday itself. I'm by no means religious, but for the sake of family, I go along with it all. Besides, chocolate is great. My grandfather has always been more of a chilli, boerewors (a variety of South African sausage) and Atchar (South African relish created by the Indian community) kinda guy.

We called him Grumpy Grampa (a tradition started by my grandmother.) He was never particularly grumpy, but if you had to deal with what he dealt with for most of his adult life, you'd also be a little gruff.

He's not gone, we just don't call him Grumpy Grampa anymore.
