The brief was to create an original zine to raise awareness for a sociological issue of our choosing and was based around the theme 'fragments', in which I linked to the motifs of identity, isolation, emotions, freedom and discovering what it means to be human.

My zine follows the story of an AI who develops her own thoughts and emotions in which lead her to run away, be free and create a life for herself outside, her new experiences shortly leads to her batteries running out and laid to rest.

The title 'firebug' tells the running symbols of the firefly throughout the story, when she is first turned on and sees them scattered across the moon to when she follows them through the forest and are broke up into fragments as the machine malfunctions.

Fireflies represent freedom and illumination whilst also having a short life span and symbolizes the AI's short freedom while being unplugged and 'bug' to convey the machines intentions and insect itself, linking this together.

I have uploaded a few select pages and front cover in no order for preview.
