RHYTHM 1990

Interactive installation with Arduino Uno, LEDs, relays, hooked rug (made by artist's mother), radio (owned by artist’s grandmother), cassette player (owned by artist’s sister), and other objects inherited by the artist.

Interaction with the rug turns on and off two radios. Conductive thread added among the yarn of the rug act as capacitive sensors. When the sensors are touched, the Arduino activates a relay pattern and LEDs.

This project was inspired by the ability of familiar objects to trigger memories and the idea of using digital technology to communicate with an analog past.

Rhythm 1990 installation at the MICA Commencement Exhibition, May 11-14, 2012.  The chair was added to invite viewers to interact.
Rhythm 1990 installed at MICA for the Wearable Technology Power Hour, May 2, 2012.
Rhythm 1990 at the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington DC on April 28-29, 2012.
