Fly-in And Around About By Ted Tryon, Photographer

"Fly-In and Around About" was a two-week exploration of Photography and America’s west coast.  Our mission was to explore photography, gain the technical ability, and inherit a perspective of the wonders of America’s beautiful landscapes.  In all, the mission was a success.

We traveled first by air from our home in suburban Chicago to Salt Lake City where we rented a car and drove another 3000+ miles.  Our trip took us to the Bonneville Salt Flats, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, Monterey, Highway 1 to LA, San Diago, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Moab and back to Salt Lake City.  We drove about 4 hours each day and photographed nearly every morning and evening.

In the end, Devin had a large collection of commentaries, photographs and time-lapse video's which he edited into a short video for his YouTube Channel. Unfortunately for me, many of my images were scarred by dust on my camera sensor early in the trip. Some images were salvaged and presented here below.

Our mission began at our home a short distance outside of Chicago as we gathered our equipment, our plans and ventured to the Airport. My son, Devin, began with a time-lapse video of the airfield as I photographed him in his moment. We were excited about our trip and wondered what interesting wonders we might encounter.  Our fist destination was Salt Lake City, Utah.
After Landing in Salt Lake City we were focused on reaching the Bonneville Salt Flats before Dark.  A stop along the path to photograph a wooden cross left by some other traveler.
The quite of the salt flats was most captivating. A flat solid surface of crusted salt stretching beyond the horizon in every direction.   As we arrived a storm began to form just over the mountains.
This is Devin, my teammate during this venture.  We stopped along the highway to photograph an interesting collection of nest formed along the side of a mountain.

The Utah valey was so amazing, the color, the interesting landscapes and the quick change in weather. Snow began to fall as we took our photos in the valley.
Far in the distance there resided a small farm at the base of the mountain. I wondered for a moment on how it might be to live in such a place.
After a meal in Reno, we set focus on Lake Tahoe. There were so many beautiful sites we passed as we climbed the mountains.  One pull-off allowed me to capture this elevations sign.  We neared 9000 ft as we reached the peak.

Far above the lake we view the sun peak through the clouds as snowflakes fall from the sky.

As we descent down the mountain provides many photographic opportunities. We often went hours without seeing another person
